4 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Chimpanzee Tracking Safari

On arrival at Kigali International Airport you are welcomed by your guide. Explore Kigali city, visiting the Genocide Memorial and local markets, then transfer to Volcanoes National Park after lunch. If time allows, stop for a canoe ride on the famous Twin Lakes within the gorilla habitat. Check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Optional: visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus or the Gorilla Guardian Village.

After an early breakfast, drive to Kinigi park headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing. You are assigned to a group and set off with local ranger guides; the search typically takes 3–4 hours. Once found, you spend one hour with the gorillas — observing them feed, play and go about their daily lives. Return to the lodge for lunch, then transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park and check in.

After breakfast, set off for chimpanzee tracking in the rainforest, beginning with a briefing on the dos and don'ts at park headquarters. Trek into the forest in search of the chimps and spend time in their presence once found. Along the way you may also spot over 13 primate species — including colobus, vervet and red-tailed monkeys — amid more than 200 tree species. Return to the lodge for lunch, then take the canopy walk in the afternoon.

Note: the canopy walk is weather-dependent and cannot be undertaken during rain.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and check out. Transfer back to Kigali for your departure flight. En route you may opt to visit the Nyanza Palace and the Huye (Butare) Museum.
